RE: Writing Prompts – writing classes
Part of the discussion on the Division’s listserv, in fact the impetus for getting the Division on Face Book, was for us to again offer opportunities for those of us interested in improving our writing skills by instigating monthly writing challenges and/or actual interactive teaching in various writing forms. Face Book was one suggestion for where and how to get some of this going, and using our email list (which we once had this going) and making use of our free conference call line (we once talked of handling writing classes by conferencing).
Toward this all, recall that I mentioned that I would contact Joyce, President of the Krafters Division, because many of us are aware that she and her Division are doing very well in holding frequent teaching sessions for people interested in crafts. And so I did talk to Joyce today. She described a three part scenario on how they make it work:
Number one: The class is held by phone conferencing. People call into a conference line by use of their phones or by the computer and SKYPE. (They have people joining in from many countries outside the usA). People take turns teaching a class.
Number two: They make use of email, a listserv (like our STYLISST) to post written materials, such as instructions and the like. This list is a closed one, only people who are members or are invited in can get to the postings. The material is left up for about a month, or essentially the time between one lesson and the next.
Number three: Face book is where the Division has there notice of who they are and what they are doing. And so people from around the world are finding them, and learning about the calls and the listserv for access to the written lessons and discussion.
--Think about this. How we can make use of this format.
