[stylist] creative non-fiction prompt

Thanks to those who took the time to read and respond to my prompt 
submission--I appreciate it. I think it's a little long, and could benefit 
from some tightening. And I think the end falls flat, but as I was drafting 
this, when I was about 90% finished, I got a phone call saying a friend, my 
hero actually, died suddenly, and I just lost all my steam. I'll take 
another look at it in a month or so.
