April, please do not WAIT - and you have to be PUSHY - I was left sitting at
home for 5 months with no help at all, after making many calls to the state
organization here in western PA. Finally, two of my doctors were furious
about my lack of help and they personally stepped in and made calls - while
I was sitting there in the office - and one doctor bagan by saying, "I am
recording this call." Within ONE DAY, I was not at the top of the "list."
I have seen other people here wait for well over 2 years just to get a CANE
and some mobility training because they thought the agency was NICE and that
they were just too busy with overloads. That is rubbish. They are very,
very, very well paid government employees. Once someone lights a fire under
them, they will move ASAP.
You need training and you need it NOW - and you need to go to an
in-residence program. Do NOT allow them to say they will come to your home
and teach you there - you are setting yourself up for failure if you allow
this. If you are a professional person, then you need professional help and
right now.
I am sure there are others here who have also encounterd the slow feet
dragging practices of many of the state programs.
