Jackie

Thanks for looking at my poem. It was a joy to write, the ones that evoke a moment in time and it's accompanying mood are the easiest for me to write.

Shawn,
Before I forget, "music pumping though my head, I think you meant "music pumping through my head."
Sorry I start with a typo, but I don't remember otherwise what I heard.
I really liked your poem. It cannot fail to bring back memories for those of us old enough to have enjoyed our "Walkmans" daily.
For me it was Jane Fonda's walking exercise tapes along with their terrific beat, and levels of speed, plus even cool down exercises at the end.
I think I still have the old Walkman along with two tapes.
Your poem captures such spirit and triumph standing at the top of that hill.
It makes me think of the fighter training for Apollo, and working through miles of running and hurtful boxing practice. Then your later life reflections of those times when it is in the evening and in your memories.
Very touching.
Jackie

OK, I'm back writing poetry, been away too long.

Shawn

Song Strider
Once upon a time
Back in Walkman days of yore
angel voices sang
In those days fondly remembered
I jacked a tape into my Walkman and strode forth.
Voices as if from angels filled my head.
Wilson Phillips bade me hold on for one more day.
As on my evening ritual rounds I did travel.
In these younger times
music pumping though my head
walking was a joy.
My body strode along,
before the twinge of aching knees.
I climbed the hill without trepidation
and from the summit could survey
the path ahead, the path behind
and know the beauty of sight and sound.
So with the music
I strode in evenings cool
in times remembered.
