As I recall Saramago is a man. Saramego is the whole last name. I'm
probably misspelling it, so I apologize.

It degrades us as humans. You won't see anyone else write a book with
another disability like that. I realize that they get their sight back in
the end, and so everything turns out okay, but suffering through that mess;
I don't know. I don't think I would get all up in arms about it; the book
is already written and out, but I would sign any petition that was sent
around by the NFB concerning it, and I would probably not be so friendly to
the author if I met her. I have read the book adjustment to the Blind; if
you read that book, you won't really need to read blindness. That book is a
cold hard brutal look at how are disability was received throughout history.
In the book blindness, everyone went blind and lost their mind; that is
totally ridiculous. -----Original Message-----

I didn't particularly want too either, but with the advent of the film, and
so much attention given to both by the Federation, I wanted to form my own
opinions and not attempt addressing and discussing something I had no clue
about. It's like people trying to refer to the Bible who have never read it
or read it in context. After reading the novel, I've been able to have
intelligent discussions and debates about it including in writing class I
took when Seramago was mentioned.

I've never read blindness, and nor do I want too.
