To what extent is this trip?

Partial or total, I strongly encourage anyone who's legally blind to
learn Braille. It's just another tool you have at your disposal. And
contrary to popular belief, Braille is often more efficient especially
for those of us with some useable vision.

And I've met sighted people who prefer Braille in certain situations.
Like a Braille instructor who writes driving directions in Braille, so
while driving, she doesn't have to take her eyes off the road, grin.

Not that sighted people will get on board and start using Braille, but
it's been proven the most efficient and sufficient writing medium for
blind people including those with partial vision.

And again, learning it doesn't mean you can then only use Braille; it's
just there when you do need it.

April,

APH is working on a Braille editing and procuction software application
called BrailleBlaster. It is intended to release a blast of Braille.
That might be of interest to you in the future. It should be available
in a beta version soon.
