Julie,
I cannot remember if I replied to this very motiving comment on getting with our projects and bringing them to finalization.
I have copied this into my documents as very good advice.
Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks! Yes, it has been a long time coming. I want other writers here to
know that you can really do this. I know a lot of us struggle to write, to
finish and to do the dreaded editing. then we get discouraged or distracted
and the project goes on the shelf and we forget about it. Been there, done
that.

the thing is though, that words keep forever. They will never grow mold, go
out of style or rust. You can always dig that book out and finish it,
finally. Seriously, just do it.

I do hope that my book will appeal to more than only blind people. Sure
that's going to be a large part of the audience, but I think the book is
really about finding the inner strength to go against what is expected.
It's about no regrets, no excuses, and being authentic. Because at the end
of the day, who to we have to answer to but ourselves?

If I figure out how to utilize all the tracking and reporting tools offered
by Amazon, I will surely let you know. I will warn you though, that it
looks to be about as daunting of a job as writing the book was!

Five years in the making and my book is finally available on Kindle!

This has been a crazy long time coming. It has gone through many, many
edits, complete rewrites and paranoia induced procrastination. Like any
author, I still think it could be better, but there comes a time when you
just have to let go and hope for the best.

The book is called: "Courage to Dare: A Blind Woman's Quest to Train Her Own
Guide Dog". The book is a narrative of the first year with Monty from the
time I picked him up at the shelter to the first day of going to work at my
office. It is told as remembrances throughout that year while walking to
my office that first time. There is an epilogue of snippets from our first
year as a working team. The final section is my training plan.

Please share with anyone you think might be interested. If you love it, let
me know. If you have ideas for other related books, I promise to listen.
If you hate it, please be gentle.

Thanks!
Julie

Helen,
A very interesting poem. I am guessing that your form, of using just one
word per line, signifies the stretching out of that long winter of
housekeeping. Very effective.
"She kneels to comfort me" I take to mean either that I have succumbed and
finally find comfort, or that slowly the snows melt like kneeling, or giving
way.
The concept of shuddering down that oblivion with a wind at your back is
intriguing. Shuddering technically warms up someone, and thus gives a kind
of defense. I had to read this poem several times to get a sense of feeling
it in my own bones.!
I look forward to more of your poems. I do not know if I am on the right
track as you may have intended, but I try.
Jackie

Encouraged by Jackie, here's my first sharing with the group. Unnamed as of
right now.

The sneering face of winter,

Lip curled, into oblivion,

Teeth exposed and shining,

has taken up housekeeping here.

With me.

I shudder her lip down,

My back to the wind.

She kneels to comfort me,

As I make it

Through

Four

Months

Of housekeeping.
