Phyllis,
Yes, knitting really forces my brain into a "whole 'nuther place." Playing
music is great too, as is taking a long walk, and I love playing with our
dog and cat.

I knit.  Does it work?  Well, sometimes, and then again there's a lot of
unraveling going on.

Seriously, I do find that often some mindless thing such as knitting a
simple pattern, or just sitting at the organ letting my hands wander does
help.  And, oh, yes, I'm sure playing with a child could work wonders.  A
kitty? a dog?
