Hi all, This is definitely very interesting. I lived in NJ for ten years and
entered writing contests with fees with no trouble. I have also seen
contests from lit mags in these very states who require entry fees. In
answer to the question of why charge an entry or reading fee, many times the
fee is used for prize money. I have read to be aware of really high fees so
would never enter anything over $20.00, and even that I think is high. I
just entered a contest, here in NZ, where the fee was $20.00.It was called
The Great Beginnings contests and the first three chapters of your novel get
scored. I didn't think this was an outrageous fee.
Cheers

I just discovered that if you live in Nebraska, Colorado, New Jursey, and I
think Vermont and Mariland, you can't enter contests that have a fee. So if
I wanted to enter a writing contest that charges five bucks, I can't do it.
Anyone have any recent info on this?
