[stylist] writing contests

Most legit writing contest charge a fee, as much as $20. Many top lit mags
have writing contest, and they charge a fee. There's nothing uncommon or
unusual about entry fees for contest. In fact, I would find it unusual if
they didn't charge a fee. If a mag or publication require a fee for
publishing, sometimes that's another story to be aware of, but as far as
contest go, you would find it difficult to find one not charging an entry
fee.

I'm just wondering, why would you want to enter a writing contest for a fee?
I have heard that sometimes they just want to take advantage of you.

I just discovered that if you live in Nebraska, Colorado, New Jursey, and I
think Vermont and Mariland, you can't enter contests that have a fee.  So if
I wanted to enter a writing contest that charges five bucks, I can't do it.



Anyone have any recent info on this?
