[Applebutter Hill]

Robert,
Juncos are a type of sparrow which spend their summers in Western Canada and
winters throughout the US. There are several varieties, but most have white
tail feathers. They are ground feeders and will come to trays of hulled
sunflower seeds and some other things I've forgotten since reading the
Cornell ornothology page yesterday (so much for my short-term memory). We
see their return as a sure sign that Winter is at their heels -- do birds
have heels? I think they actually do; they have thighs and knee joints. I'm
saying they most definitely have heels. *grin*
