Lynda,
This is a wonderful poem. The first thing I noticed was the impact that came from the short lines. Also, it was very comfortable with no punctuation, for the lines took care of that.
I loved the line about the refrigerator, and of course, the line of taking love as the only thing that will go with one.
You have combined the theme with weather to a powerful human poem. And your ending tells us so clearly about what you now see out of the past.
No I do not write about weather, per se, but I write a great deal about climate change, and the loss of species.

Subject: [stylist] Re Poems about weather
Here is a poem I wrote in 1991 – A Summer Story
Many of my pieces have weather conditions as a theme.
Do any of you often focus on weather in your work, too?
**
A Summer Story
I am very small
In a summer storm
cradled on my father’s lap
moving back and forth
rocking in a chair
lightening flashes
rain glazes my view
I am filled with fearful thoughts.
“Do not be afraid,” he says
I ask “Can we take the new refrigerator
with us when we die?”
“No!” he replied
“We can take nothing with us
but our love.”
I saw him once again
after his death,
my granddaughter in his lap.
