Bill,

The part about the kids on the playground was actually originally one of the
blogs I wrote for Live Well Nebraska.com. I later incorporated it into this
piece, feeling it fit the theme and had a similar tone and voice as the
entire essay.

Hey, Bridgit, I am glad you finally got that essay that included the jump
rope story about being made fun of over your type 1 diabetes out the door
and published.  

 

I was combing through old emails using the search term " bullying" and I ran
into a couple iterations of it. 

 

It reminds me of diet guru Richard Simmons' television show which my mother
often watched when it was on.  He used to say people were afraid of the word
"diet" because it had the word "die" in it.  So he switched things around
and called it a "live-it" instead.  This was meant to help people stay with
the process of watching their exercise and food intake better.  

 

I hope your story is helpful in bringing attention and solutions to the
bullying problem.  There were times I was bullied in school and also have
acted in ways that may have been perceived as being a bully, and I regret
that.
