Barbara,

In the third stanza, I thought it might be Reagan, definitely someone
political. I was a kid during his presidency, so maybe that's why I wasn't
sure, smile.

I like how this format uses repetition. I feel repetition allows the reader
to think and digest what they are reading. Almost like it gives us a moment
to reflect.

I like how you weave personal elements into a bigger picture. I personally
enjoy any kind of writing that uses a braided style.

Thanks for sharing.

Bridgit

Funny that Shawn should start us on this thread. Just last week I sat down
and wrote this.

  HIS WORDS
By Barbara Hammel

I am so thankful that W H O
Obtained the permission to air
His words, neither halting nor slow.
I am so thankful that W H O
Has given me this chance to know
Depth of knowledge, width of flare.
I am so thankful that W H O
Obtained the permission to air.

I have no memory of exact words spoken
Yet his voice recalls my teens
Before my heart was ever broken.
I have no memory of exact words spoken
Yet those snatches are a childhood token, That break my heart with innocence
scenes.
I have no memory of exact words spoken
Yet his voice recalls my teens.

So many words that still ring true today, And unlearned lessons taught.
There was wisdom beyond the sets of L.A.
So many words that still ring true today, And his legacy now, so many
betray.
In politics' snare we are caught.
So many words that still ring true today, And unlearned lessons taught.

Think what you may when I mention his name, But he speaks very well in these
bits.
I know, in the past, what so many claim, Think what you may when I mention
his name, When the Hawkeyes were preempted I thought the same.
I have since then learned he has many wits.
Think what you may when I mention his name, But he speaks very well in these
bits.

It may be nostalgia for times gone by
Yet I believe the things he said.
You and I may not see eye to eye,
It may be nostalgia for times gone by,
And yet, for the times as they are, I sigh.
Are Reagan's ideals really dead?
It may be nostalgia for times gone by
Yet I believe the things he said.
