[stylist] motivating myself to write

Vejas,

I agree that when I was still at university, taking workshop classes, it was
easier to write and find time to write. I never lack ideas, as I typically
have a million ideas every day, but to discipline myself and sit down to
write, it can be difficult, especially when life gets busy. One thing we
learned in workshop classes was to just write even if you have nothing to
write. Write about your day, something you observe, even about the most
mundane thing, even if it's the same word over and over, anything just so
you're writing. Simply write your ideas and characters down. Create
character composites, whatever. Maybe music acts as a muse for you, or going
somewhere and observing what's around you, jotting notes if necessary. And
just taking the time, which is difficult for me. Sometimes, too, we need to
read as well to help the writing process. There's a lot of things you can
do, you need to find what works for you.

Subject: [stylist] motivating myself to write

Hi All,
I was wondering what you all do to motivate yourselves to write when you
feel stuck.
It was easy for me to write last year because I was in creative writing
class, so if I wanted a good grade I had to write, which I thought was
great!
I have lots of different characters in my head. I conduct stories about
them all in my head as well, and know their names, ages, personalities, etc.
But often when it comes to me wanting to write about them, I open a document
and just freeze. I really want to keep writing, though. I just find it
strange that I have all the information about them in my head but when it
gets to having to write it on paper it's totally different.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Any suggestions on what I can do to get my creative juices flowing in the
written word?
Thanks,
Vejas
