Lynda,
Very inspiring and motivating. I have not had to be a caregiver, but I have
dealt with a lot of health issues with family members. It's not easy, and
hats off to you for taking on this tough role.
I admire your focus and discipline with your writing. Disciplineing myself
is probably one of my biggest problems. I have wanted to start a blog for a
while now, I just don't take the time to research and write. Now that I have
a broken ankle and can't do as much physically, hopefully I can take the
time to focus on writing.
Stylist has afforded a lot of us the opportunity to explore our writing and
learn to identify as blind writers and people. I have also developed
meaningful, close relationships with a couple of people I met on Stylist.
This list can do so much more than provide a space for writers to post work
or discuss writing-related topics.
You lady, Lynda, take on so much, and that's motivating to me, thanks.

Thanks so much for the nice comment. I write the two blogs because of my
love of sharing ideas and communicating with others who have a passion for
the arts and humanities.
I suppose the two blogs are an extension of my classroom teaching since I am
now retired. They are a way I have of giving a gift to others who are
interested. For those newer members here at Syylist, I will explain: for
the past 1 12 years I have been a caregiver to my husband of fifty-four
years. Bob (and our entire family) plunged into "Mordor" in January 2014.
His battle for life began - he had Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). It's a
deadly form of leukemia (blood cancer) which typically destroys its victims
within a few months, even with treatment. He was 73 when diagnosed - most
people who get this disease will receive no treatment after age 60 for it
because the statistics reflect a very grim picture. But, Bob was in optimal
fitness in body and mind at age 73, from a life time of hard physical work,
and daily exercise routine at the gym. Therefore, he was given a "chance"
when it was decided to give him the treatments. Only 50 percent of people
over age 60 will survive 6-8 months once treatment begins. With no
treatment at all, the patient lives only about 2 months. During the past 1
1/2 years Bob has been our full focus, getting him through one day at a time
- and often times, one minute at a time. He had a stem cell transplant last
October 2, and has continued to do well little by little - and we know it
is only because many people have prayed for him that he has gotten through
these months. While I have continued to write, it has certainly been
difficult to carve out the space and bring my mind into focus for it.
You can understand, I believe, why you have not heard much from me during
these months. When such personal tragedies strike us, our priorities are
adjusted and things we thought were so important are seen in perspective. I
hope this helps someone here who may also be facing struggles that seem
insurmountable - never give up hope and hold on for a brighter day WILL be
coming for you.
But, I want to speak of writing here - Last January, I set my "intentions"
for the new year with a focus on the blogs. I wanted to clearly define my
focus for the writing, upgrade the presentation (actually buy a theme), and
write regular articles that are a cohesive collection. "Walking by Inner
Vision" is focused on presenting short writing assignments, about one a
week, for the entire year. My intention is to write fifty this year. Right
now, I am on target to do it and I usually have 2 or 3 articles written in
advance, placed on the "schedule." This way, I can write an article,
schedule it, and then I'll have a few weeks to continue to meditate on the
content, tweak, and reflect - all before it is publicized. It's working well
that way.
For the new blog, "SCANdalous-Recollections," my focus is short essays with
a clear focus on Fine Art, Humanities, and Christian Faith. On this blog, I
also featured a "guest" blogger - plan to do that once a month. I have
presented two guests at this time, and a third one will be doing an article
for this month. I wanted to share my blog with other writers who focus on
art and humanities topics from a Judeo-Christian World View - its been
inspiring for me and I have learned so much from my guests. It just happened
that each of my guests is blind and each has a strong academic way of
presenting research on a topic. Each of them understands how to work in an
interdisciplinary way. I'll be seeking out a few more such bloggers for my
guest spots in the future - it is personally rewarding to connect with such
inspiring and motivated writers.
One surprise that I had recently was an introduction to blogger, Beckie
Horter, who was my last guest - in May. As it turns out, the person who
introduced us had no idea that Beckie and I already had a history together
from years ago. Beckie had been one of my students at Geneva College, where
she earned her English degree in writing. I had not seen Beckie since that
time and the irony of it is that Beckie had also lost her sight after she
left Geneva! We were both elated to "meet" again after so many years. She
wrote an exceptionally good piece for my blog. She is a writer by
profession.
I wanted to share a few highlights I have encountered on my blogging journey
this year with you. I started the first blog 6 years ago as a response to
my own sight loss and journey to take back my creative life - and I continue
on that journey today, along with each of you as we speak and write our
future together. Stylist has been an important part of my own discovery for
recovery and revision of a writing life.

I am received your posts - but have been super busy with projects so have
not had time to respond.
Yes, it has been super quiet here on my end, too.
I just posted my 21st Writing Assignment on Walking by Inner Vision -
Journal - on my blog today.
At the beginning of the year, I started doing a series (will be 50 total) of
writing assignments and short essays on writing with each one).
I also do another blog, SCANdalus-Recollections, which keeps me pretty busy,
too. I am publishing a series on that blog but these essays are with a
focus on art and humanities and faith.
Working on two book projects, and doing a lot of other writing and art
projects as well.

Today, I am going to be outside trimming shrubs and doing yard work if the
