Lynda

Yes, my trip back to Iowa did inspire a poem. This is about one thing we did back in the heartland, eat way too much.

I hope y'all have the intestinal fortitude to dig into this one.

Eating Humble Pie
by Shawn Jacobson

I cyclone country
When man dares battle with food
food surely prevails.
I put on pounds looking at the menu
the sandwich astounds in size,
burger, tenderloin, chicken, backen,
chees, cheese, and cheese.
Should I prevail, I shall attain
the local hall of fame.
I consider the challenge
answering the battle call
a youger, hungrier me
would surely answer the call.

Yet I will abstain surrender now,
for my gut tells me I would fail
and join the ignominious many
in the restaurant's hall of shame.
My stomach no longer stretches
around Iowa's bounty
from Granite City to Dublin Bay
from Jephro's to Hickery Park
to Perkins, Perkins Perkins
and stretching conform food
past comfort's limits
no longer comforts me.
So I must give this meal respect
and concede to it the victor's due.

So I surrender
no valor for this warrior
prudence must be served.

I've been on vacation for a week and a half (at the end of May) in Iowa and the rest of the time I've been busy.

One thing I've been busy about is getting an article into Future Reflections (it should be in the summer issue.

I hope to get more writing done once the smoke clears.

Shawn

Hi bill,
I am received your posts - but have been super busy with projects so have not had time to respond.
Yes, it has been super quiet here on my end, too.

I just posted my 21st Writing Assignment on Walking by Inner Vision - Journal - on my blog today.
At the beginning of the year, I started doing a series (will be 50 total) of writing assignments and short essays on writing with each one).
I also do another blog, SCANdalus-Recollections, which keeps me pretty busy, too. I am publishing a series on that blog but these essays are with a focus on art and humanities and faith.
Working on two book projects, and doing a lot of other writing and art projects as well.

www.lyndalambert.com takes you to my writing projects on Walking by Inner
Vision - if you want to have a look there at my articles on writing.
Today, I am going to be outside trimming shrubs and doing yard work if the rain stays off for a few hours. Two of our children are home for the weekend - so lots to do.

Best wishes on your own writing, Bill,
Lynda

Hey Gang,

I've submitted a few poems to the list over the last month or so and haven't
received any responses to them, or any other subject for that matter. Has
the list been down or something? I haven't seen anybody else's work either.
