Hi Deby! 
Yes, I heard about that heat wave. It was in 1981 and Portland set a record temperature of 107 degrees. The closest in Oregon I remember was the summer of 2009 when Portland reached 106 degrees. This is the worst drought I have ever seen. It looks more like the end of the summer even though the summer solstice was last Sunday. I'll have to sit down and write home about it since it's disturbing and unusual. Stay cool!!!
