Try contacting a comp sci student specializing in web design. They are usually required to do so much practical work before graduating, and are often easier to work with than a company or established web designer, and cost much less as well.

Thanks!  That helps a lot!   It feels like there are millions of web 
building types of  companies.  Lots of people have the technical skills...but what I really, really want is a nice person who will be easy to work with!

I can give Jackie McBride my highest recommendation for a good contact for web hosting and any information you could need.  She has been wonderful to work with the past 2 years.  I have my website and two blogs hosted with her company - she is only a phone call away if any problem comes up. She has worked with me every time I had a problem - even on a day when she had just had surgery and was in pain.
I think you will be thrilled with her services - I certainly am!

Here is the address of someone that I have been corresponding with concerning websites, as well as other computer problems. Jackie McBride <abletec at gmail.com> Her name was provided to me by Lynda McKinney Lambert in a roundabout way. Jackie was active in helping Lynda with her websites, and they are on a mutual list of writers.

Hello all!

I am beginning on the adventure of creating a web business around my
writing.   I want to be able to offer my book directly instead of through
Amazon.  I have plans for some other short books, some audio content and perhaps videos somewhere in the future.

anyway, I can do some basic things like updating with WordPress and that sort of thing.  I do not know how to pick an accessible theme or what plug ins to use.  I am wondering if anyone here has ever hired someone to help set up a web site?  If so what was your experience and would you recommend their services?

I did ask on the webmasters list and got one response.  I really want to explore a variety of options before choosing.  I’m hoping someone here might know of someone who would be interested.  I am willing to pay for the service.
