Bridgit,
Thanks again for the kind words. It does help me to re-orient myself if I
get discouraged. Just wrote Lynda also, so you will know what the problem
was. So silly, but I have been forbidden to put anything in my ear to remove
the wax, and the ENT moved away from my area, and I have transportation
problems. So it got away from me, and I could not even feel it, other than a
steady determination of finally all hearing. I now know when to yell,
"Help."

Lynda,
I am working making sense of my world with a hearing problem so bad that I
cycle in and out of hearing at all. On the bad days, I am a Buddhist in a
Monastery in total silence trying to meditate. On my good days, I answer
e-mails, and am trying to get back in the saddle and finish my entries to
the Minnesota annual contest. The books are still there, and not yet
transferred to my new computer.
The situation is not hopeless, and rest assured that you will be among the
first to know if I finish one of my books. With time such a valued
commodity, I am having trouble deciding on which one I should focus on, and
consequently waste time thinking about all of them.
You usually have pearls of wisdom on such things as refining goals, so any
advice is always appreciated. I have to prioritize them, but unsure how to
do this. The one most important to my sons would be the one about Africa.
For me, my poetry book which needs extensive revision.
I do so admire your understanding of the social communications platforms. I
do not think I will surmount the skills necessary at this stage, and it
discourages me from total dedication to my writing.
Donna has been such an avid practitioner of marketing, and I am not sure how
far that took her.
So, bottom line, I want to enjoy whatever I do, and hope that it will
provide enjoyment to others.
I think of you and Bob often. My prayers always, along with a few
butterflies.

What are you working on right now? I'd love to hear about it.
And, are you working on those books you have in development? I hope so.

Lynda,
Loved that you expanded on your method of writing, and revising often
through successive years.
I, also, have learned from Annie Dillard.
Keep on keeping on.

Hi Jackie,
Thank you for taking the time to give me your reaction when reading my
poems and essay. I so much appreciate it. I enjoy working with the editors
so much. I learn a lot from each of them.

I view writing as a craft - a fine craft - it takes many layers of
workmanship to hone our ideas into a workable format. I think we have to
work for years to become a journeyman in this craft. Probably an entire
lifetime.
I wrote "Girl on a Bench Sees Visions of Butterflies" in 2014 and the short
essay was written to accompany the image of the art work, for an art
gallery where my fiber works were being displayed. Since that time I have

returned to this essay about a dozen times to re-write it and finally reach
where it is in this issue of Indiana Voice Magazine. It's not uncommon to me

to go back into work I did a decade ago and throw out the baby in the
bathwater, to revise it again and again. Writing is like seeing - it take a
lifetime to truly see the images and events that we write about. It's not a
look or a glance - not quick and easy. It's a labor intensive occupation to
see and that kind of seeing dos not really involve our eyes. Recently, I
read a wonderful biography on Flannery O'Connor, and I could see this same
kind of working out of ideas in what she produced.

Quite a few years ago when I was teaching, a colleague read some of my work
and sent me a note to say he saw the same sensibilities in me as he read in
Annie Dillard. At that time, I never read anything by Dillard - but when I
did, it was recognition of a kindred spirit in how we think and how we
present our ideas in multiple layers. I like to think of what I do as
looking through a kaleidoscope - one tiny shift and then another. Typically

a worldview is either cyclical or linear - but I am not either in my
writing. My view is through the kaleidoscope. It's always helpful to get
the comments like you have given me to let me know what you are thinking
about what you read.

Lynda,
I am truly impressed with the presentation of your poems and your essay.
Your poems took much re-reading for me to learn the names and terms, but I
felt the rhythm and music in each one.
Your essay was magical on so many levels. When finally you reveal yourself
near the end, and described how your inner vision and your fingers made that
work of art, it gave me a new inner vision. I loved your description of life
as layers, one built on another, and that was how blindness had worked to
enable your creative pieces. The description of seeds, and gens, and how
your fingers searched, remembered, and selected each to be a part, was
fascinating.
You have a deep and challenging perception of life, abroad, and in your own
childhood that make reading your work a challenge and a joy.
I still do not feel competent to make comments within a blog post, but if
you want to send this on to the Indiana Voice Journal, please do so.

the June Issue of Indiana Voice Journal selected three of my pieces for
publication this month.
My work is featured just about every month in this literary journal and I
love the way they present my work with great illustrations.
Here is the link to two of my most recent poems, and there is an article I
wore in this same issue.

Enjoy! Happy Writing to all. Sorry, but I don't know how to make this link
clickable so if you want to read it you will have to copy and paste it into

Hi Jackie,
Yes, I agree Bridgit wrote a powerful piece. And, I love the ending for it
does not really let us know what happened after those moments when she sang
to her new baby after his birth. Someone asked me on a phone call ' WDid her
baby live?"
My friend is blind and did not see the photo of Bridget with her husband and
young son. I love happy endings and this is a great one.
It makes me very happy to hear the good feedback my guests get and I love
doing this because I get to see a new side of each person I would not have
seen before.

I am sorry to hear of the total hearing loss you experienced, but glad to
know you passed through this tough time and are now able to listen to your
emails. You are an inspiration to us all, Jackie.
with warm regards,
Lynda

Lynda,
You have done it again! This was a super blog by Bridgit and I am so glad
you included her on your guest list. It is indeed a privilege to be included
on your list.
Bridjit is a super writer, and she introduced us into her thoughts and
emotions in a way that will not be forgotten.
I went completely deaf for three weeks, with difficulties before that, but I
am now able to respond to e-mails. I apologize for the time lapse.

Hi Everyone,
This note is in response to Debby's post. It is a delight for me to present
each guest blog.
It is my pleasure to feature outstanding writers, artists and creative
people on my two blogs. One blog is writing based; one is arts & humanities
based. I publish 6-8 Guest Blogs per year on each of them. My intention is
to give each person a voice and a place to share ideas that are important to

them. When I decided to do this, I thought, "Will anyone want to do this
with me?"
I was amazed at the positive response, and so excited about presenting their

ideas to the public. To date, no one has turned down my invitation and I
learn so much in the process of getting to know my guests. Each guest
resents something special for my audience.
For anyone who may want to visit the 2 blogs, I will post the address for
them below.
For each guest, I ask just one question - "What is on your mind.?" We
always put their thoughts together with an image or two, sometimes a video
or link to music or additional information on the guest or their blogs.
Here are links to the current posts for each blog:
