[stylist] Is This a good Potential Story Idea?

What age do you plan on starting at? There's a difference in voice between say a ten year old and a thirty year old. One thought about the diary is that maybe your character wants to be a writer when he gets older so this is his way to get started? There's a fellow in Britain and it's not samuel Peepes or however one spells his name, this man in much more recent and he kept a diary for something like sixty years with weather and everything, I can't remember where I read about him but they were talking about how personal observations are often different from the media. Also Mass Observation in the UK had all kinds of people keeping diaries starting in about 1937 I think and particularly through the war years.
As for offending people, well who are your intended audience? It's like sex, some people are going to find descriptive sex scenes offensive, some aren't, sometimes those scenes are absolutely necessary, sometimes they just seem to be there to make up a word count or maybe fill some sort of quota, the book would be just as good without them. Anyway if you need to put something in your story because it's necessary than do it. Someone asked me why one of my characters had to swear, all I can say is that's the kind of person he is, if he didn't curse he'd be someone else and the story would be a different story.
Just some thoughts

I've found I generally have more patience for people who are better communicators.
> What I want to do is to show the various degrees of friendship that can be had. For example, I have a friend who in a way is kind of like my older brother. If one of us messes up we're just like "Oops, next time you could do this better" and move on, others however are not so forgiving. And also to show the main character's maturity in dealing with people, not expecting immediate replies, that kind of thing. My uncle was saying that nobody, even a friend, owes me anything and vice-versa.

It would be the main character's conversations between family and show the different interactions that they have with friends. The point of it would be to see how this main character matures.
