I know a partially sighted woman who wanted to be a nun, and she met with 
the same obstacles.
She didn't leave Catholicism, but she was sure disappointed.
All this technology, and we're still in cave man days as far as attitudes go 
about what blind people can do.
And that's just blind. That doesn't include 2nd or 3rd illnesses, conditions 
or disabilities.

Yes, I later read something that stated the Catholic church later revisited 
these rules and changed them. Before Vatican II though, apparently blind 
priest were restricted in what they could do, and often required sighted 
assistance, even if there were an alternative way to conduct things.

And this could just have been one person's experience, but I knew a woman 
who had been a nun and was blind, but she was told the only work she could 
do was basic cleaning. She was not allowed to work with people or 
participate in the other duties the other nuns typically did. This caused 
her to quit, and she even left the Catholic church. She became a teacher at 
the Iowa Department for the Blind.

Wow. There shouldn't be so many rules. A blind priest should have the same 
rights as a sighted one. This is from 1957 though, so may not be taken as 
seriously now.
