Have you considered contacting BFA and MFA students to edit? They may be
willing to do it for a nominal fee.

Subject: [stylist] Fiver Not Accessible
Has anyone thought of using www.fiver.com to hire services of an editor,
formatter, or book cover designer?
It's not accessible.
I wanted to put together a publishing team. I wrote my post. But the menus
you are required to choose from aren't formatted for Jaws.
Dammit, Janet, I really could have used fiver. They were in my price range.
Anyway, I tried to look for a contact number or email, couldn't find one.
Now I've tired my wrists and hands, and will have to wait for another few
hours or even a day before doing any more on the computer.

Hi, Phyllis.I'd like an editor and help with formatting and book cover
design.
My finances are very low, and so is my health.
I could wish I was ok in at least one of these categories. If I had good
health, I'd be able to do all the leg work and whatever that I couldn't
afford to pay for.
If I had good finances, I'd be sure to get all the help I could pay for, and
if my health wasn't very good, well, at least I'd have the money to create
on my good days, then pass it along.
Well of course I know it's not that simple. Creating involves re-writing.
I just meant that when it was as good as I could make it, I'd be able to
pass it on for the next stage.
I don't have rich relations, or poor ones, for that matter, so I don't have
anyone I can go to for help.
If there was a chance of winning a writing contest, and maybe that's where
I'm going to get the money, then I could proceed.
I hear the fifty-thousand-word novel is going the way of the dinosaur
because of people liking to read short works on their iPhone and such.
This is good news for me. I can use short bursts of health and energy to
work on shorter pieces.
Selling those pieces would mean extra money to put back into writing, or to
live on.
Anyway, if you want to take this offlist, here's my email.

I could never afford an editor. I did my best to proof my material. You
will need your material formatted properly for Smashwords, and you will
have to have a properly done cover. Someone on the list might be willing
to help you with proofreading. I regret that I'm tied up with work and
medical appointments to do more than advise. How skilled are you at the
computer? Do you have any money to spare. I think I got my last cover
and format for something over a hundred dollars, but there's someone I
got earlier who charged less, and she did a good job for me. Trust me, I
understand about being short of money, and wish I could help more. I
will try to advise you, and if I can think of any other help I can give
you, I'll let you know. Meanwhile, please keep in touch.
Phyllis
