Yes, I belong to two writing groups. One is a poetry group, which I am
taking a break from, while I work on a memoire. in the other group it is
small, and all genres are written, from those with varying degrees of skill.
I could not progress or write as effectively without either one.
One costs me money, about $100. for ten weeks, and the other is free.
Both are in senior centers.
It took me  some time to learn how little I knew about writing  and how to
truly welcome tough critiquing.
Some teachers will give you what you want, and some, not so much. But if you
are clear in communicating about what you need and what your goals are then
you can decide. You can get a refund after a trial class. 
Transport is a huge problem, but in my case, my two teachers have wanted me
there enough to provide transportation. 
Though I cannot read, the hearing is the larger problem. You really need to
find a group that will support your own level of functioning.
I wish you success in finding such a group.

Hello All,

As part of my ongoing efforts to re-enter the world of creative writing, I'm
contemplating joining a local writers club here in southern California.  

My question to everyone is, has anyone on this list joined a local writing
club and, if so, have you found any value in your membership?  

I don't know about other areas of the country but, here, membership
requirements can be a bit taxing and cost a bit of money.  

So, before I join, I thought I'd run it past you all.
