[Stylist] Writing contest

Typically, fiction sells better than nonfiction. In order to sell a memoir
or autobio, usually, you have to be a celebrity or have gone through some
ordeal that makes national news, like Sully and landing the plane on the
Hudson. Everyone else, we are going to have to go through a small press,
self-publishing, or if a big publishing house picks it up, it's rare for a
non-celebrity memoir or autobio to end up on a best seller list. Nonfiction
is really big right now, but, you have to be known for it to sell. So,
either a celebrity or a literary celeb like David Sedaris. Fiction is still
the biggest item to be picked up with publishers.

More successfully selling memoirs and biography makes sense to me, because
only you can write the story of your life in your unique way with wording,
and sometimes fact is stranger than fiction and things happen that we might
never have thought of.
