Jennifer this is such a great question and I am happy to give you the
information that will bring your poem/framing project to life.

You will have 2 things to consider:
First, is the poem short and wide -and if so, you need a horizontal frame.
Second, is it tall and not so wide? Then, you need a vertical frame.

But there is a THIRD THING you must know for this to look professional.
This is what will make or break your presentation.

For the top and 2 sides - make the measurement the same for all 3 of them -
usually about 2 inches or more.
For the bottom of the white space - you must make it about an inch deeper
than what you have on the other 3 sides.

There is such a thing, known as "visual balance," and that is what you
want to create so that your poem looks wonderful in a frame.
If you would do the bottom of the matt the same as the top and sides, it
will look like your poem is very low and sliding off the page.
Leaving an extra inch of white space beneath your poem, lifts the eye
upwards towards your poem and provides visual relief from gravity.
Our vision tends to pull downwards due to gravity - and any time you want to
frame an object, you need to remember the bottom part needs more space.

Good luck. What a wonderful thing you are doing...Lynda Lambert

I am wondering if any of 'all prefer to frame a poem horizontally or
vertically. I wrote a 9 line acrostic poem for a friend and I want to frame
it next to a picture (nativity scene) within a frame. Frame photo opening
size could be 10.5 x 13.5 inches. Please let me know your thoughts.

Thank you,

Jennifer Applegate

Does anyone know if Magnets and Ladders is still a going concern?

I tried to submit yesterday, and their Email server bounced my submission
back to me as undeliverable.

Hello. Jason Smith, our webmaster worked with Shawn to resolve the issue
that caused his messages to bounce when sent to the Magnets and Ladders
submission address. Below is a message that was sent to Magnets and Ladders
subscribers with the submission address and an alternative email address
should you encounter trouble sending messages.
