Jewel

I'm glad you picked upon theallusion to Meatloaf; I enjoyed his music as well.

I will go no further into the nuances distinguishing polity from democracy (orwhatever we have now).

Sorry for your loss of music appreciation.

Shawn

Shawn! As I doubt that I will be arguing the point on the finer differences between polity and democracy, there is no need to make further inquiries, unless, of course, you have a burning desire to do so.
Incidentally the final line in your signoff tag: to whit: "in the rear view mirror: or I think, to be accurate, that it said window: brings to mind one of my favourite songs of my favourite
singer: MeatLoaf, who I found, to my great astonishment, is categorised as being "hard rock".
One of my sorrows is that, with my loss of hearing, has also gone my appreciation of music. As it applies to the modern cacophany which parades under that title, it is not a sorrow, but a blessing, but when it comes to proper music, both classical and modern, a sorrow it is. I have lost so many individual frequencies that it is now nothing more than a jumble of half notes!!!

I think it is more nuanced than that. Aristotle distinguished between "polity" and "Democracy" but I don't remember details. My college political science classes were way back in the rear view mirror.

Thanks Shawn! So a * polity is what we would now call a * democracy.

According to the Greek philosophers, a "polity" was a well-run democracy.

I wondered about who I would send this query to, and then bethought myself that as this list is made up of wordsmiths, the answer was obvious, but whether such smiths will have the answer is yet to be proved.
I was playing one of my IPhone word games last night when I came upon the following:
CLUE: System of government?
ANSWER: polity.
I get the link with politics and related words, but polity seems very odd and is a brand new word to
me: not that that is anything new to Seven Little Words!
Can anyone construct an informatory sentence that contains polity?
