Hey Annie,

If I'm being honest, I don't really get this poem. However, I'm admittedly a
bit of a dullard, and I'm going to save it and read it a few more times and
see what I can make of it. And I do thank you for sharing-one last poem for
2021. All the best in the new year!

Chris

The Faith of Mammals

By Ann Chiappetta

Would you love me if I drank your water

Like the quaking prey, eyes darting

Graceful neck outstretched

Nostrils flared patrolling

For the shaggy cunning

predators of the mists?

Would you love me if I hungered for more than mere water and

Dove, driving talons into flesh and carried it to the Airy

Sating the raptor in my heart?

Would you love me still

If I drank of your water, washed my body in

Your sanctified splashes, rinsing the taint of sin from my skin?

Would you

Love me still?
