Hi Sean,
I am one of those people who lost total vision in my late 50s. I was living in rural upstate New York where there is limited help for an adult losing eyesight. I was actually told to sell my house get rid of my dog and move to a large city where I could get help. This was from a social worker…
There were no support groups, extremely limited cane training, etc. I moved out of state, but not many people can do that.

Hello Lorenha

Welcome to the writer's division. My name is Shawn Jacobson and I am the treasurer of the group.

I am 63 years old an am a high partial. I was born totallly blind but gained partial eyesight through several eye operations.

I mostly write science fiction, but I also write poetry along with some memoir and the occasional book review.

I appreciate the sentiment in what you wrote about not complaining about blindness. I do think that people born totally blind have less trouble here than do those who had sight at one time but have lost it later in life.

I saw in one of your Emails that you like Christian literature. Our next book club discussion will cover Zenna Henderson's people stories. The title of the book is Ingathering, the RC number is 50474. These stories are science fiction with a strong Christian bent; I find them to be well written. I think that if you read the book you will like the stories.

As treasurer, may I sugggest that you may want to join the division if you have not done so already. Dues are $10 and entitle you to discounted entry fees for our annual writing contest. Dues also entitle you to copies of Slate and Style (the division newsletter) and to vote for dibvision officers.

Until later, good luck and good writing.
Shawn Jacobson

Hello.
This is Lorehna again. For some reason the file with my poem didn't go through so trying it again here!
    I won't Complain

Everywhere I go people always ask me, Do you ever complain about being blind? Here is my answer:
I was born blind and the doctors told my parents that I would never see. My family always prayed every day for me but I new that God had a special plan for me. That is why I won't complain.
I may not be able to see the smiling faces of my friends and family but that's ok with me because I can hear a smile in their voice. I can feel their love in a warm embrace. I can hear happiness in their laughter. That is why I won't complain.
Do I wish I had sight? They say? That is not so important to me. The important thing to me is that I can see with my heart. I see people for who they are inside for the way God made them. That is why I won't complain.
Living the blind life does get hard but everything's alright because better days always come around. That is why I won't complain.
I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything because God made us all in different ways. He didn't give me eyes to see but I see in a unique way. That is why I won't complain.

Hello Readers and followers, a blessed and belated Independence Day to everyone. ? ? ?
I wanted to get this out before we break for a vacation. I?ll share our adventures upon our return. Even the cats are coming with us, so it should be interesting.

The ever-expanding tribe of writers and readers means so much to me and I want to share a bit about them in each newsletter moving forward.

I had a great time being a guest blogger for a June Word Crafter blog tour for Hope For the Tarnished <https://writingtoberead.com/2022/06/15/day-3-of-the-wordcrafter-hope-for-the-tarnished-book-blog-tour/> . It was a fun five days of getting to know the host bloggers and exposing my novel to new readers. To find out more about Kay Lynne?s newsletter, book blog tours and her excellent blog, Writing To Be Read, go here <https://writingtoberead.com/2022/06/15/day-3-of-the-wordcrafter-hope-for-the-tarnished-book-blog-tour/> .

Since I?ve been sharing audio clips of my writing, I thought I?d share one of my short stories, Trolley Ride <https://www.dropbox.com/s/sz6eu0qowdnculn/13%20Trolly%20Ride%20Master%20v1.mp3?dl=0> from A String of Stories <https://www.audible.com/pd/A-String-of-Stories-Audiobook/B0924X3X3L> from the Heart to the Future ? 2020 and narrated by Lilian Yves <https://www.lillianyves.com/> .
