Okay, here is the synopsis for the YA fiction novel I decided to write. Honestly I should rewrite it. I have a few more subplots that aren’t in the synopsis.

Title: Caught in the Net

       Genre: Young Adult Fiction

Setting: A contrasting depiction of life in a bustling city versus a small town capturing the shift from a sports-driven

high school in a metropolis to the intricate dynamics of a rural school community.

Synopsis:

In "Caught in the Net," 17-year-old Paige's life takes a dramatic turn following a tragic car accident that claims her father's life and upends her own.

As a promising volleyball player whose talent shone in her city's large, competitive sports arena, Paige now must navigate the murky waters of grief and

guilt while adjusting to life in a small town with her mother, whom she barely knows.

Moving away from the city that was the backdrop of her volleyball success and academic struggles, Paige grapples with her father's death, which she irrationally

blames on herself—a misplaced guilt stemming from their last argument over her performance in the season's final game. Paige's healing is compounded by

her physical injuries, adding a tangible weight to her emotional burden.

In the more intimate setting of a small-town high school, Paige faces a new challenge: the intricate politics of sports where reputation and alliances

often dictate one's place on the team. Despite her renown as a skilled player, she finds herself sidelined by the local dynamics until unforeseen circumstances

thrust her back into the limelight on the varsity team.

Through tutoring sessions with a fellow student, a gentle and intelligent boy who becomes her anchor amidst the chaos, Paige's life finds a semblance of

balance. This developing relationship offers Paige not just academic support, but also a tender exploration of young love. Meanwhile, her rejection of

the advances of a popular boy—who promises popularity and success in exchange for her companionship—underscores her integrity and the struggle to maintain

one's identity against social pressures.

As Paige works toward a physical and emotional comeback, the story culminates in a gripping state championship match against her old rival, rekindling

the pain of her previous defeat. Although Paige and her team…,

"Caught in the Net" is a testament to the human spirit's resilience. It delves into the complex web of high school sports, family dynamics, and the journey

from tragedy to triumph. As Paige comes to terms with her past, she learns that life's true victories often lie beyond the scoreboard, in the lessons learned

and the growth experienced when one is caught in life's most challenging nets.

Themes: The tension between personal loss and public competition, the navigation of family relationships, the intricacy of teenage social structures, and

the fortitude required to rise above profound personal challenges.

I’m working on a YA fictional novel right now. Probably a bit strange for a grown man, especially when the protagonist is a 17-year old girl.

I have three teenage daughters, smoosh issues of theirs into one person, add a little drama and tragedy, and there you go.

While working on it today, I came up with a back story for one of the supporting characters that would make a great short story. I think I’ll try to get that done and attempt my luck with submitting it to “Magnets and Ladders”.

If it doesn’t clutter the list too much, I could post a synopsis of the one I’m working on, minus the ending.

Don’t know why, but I have been inspired to write lately.

Can’t spell, my grammar sucks, and my fat fingers get in the way of typing.

But, I’m here, we’ll see what happens.
