Wow! All but one of the tactile displays potentially available to you at any time you want. That’s cool.

You sound like a person who may also know how to code. . Do you code? If so, what languages have you written on theGraphiti?

I am prepared for the low resolution. It’s very limited, but I expect displays to quadruple in density when designed more for graphics and less for reading Braille. I think Orbit Reader 20Plus can connect to the Graphiti as well giving the display the freedom to focus on the image. .

I do have my critiques about the Graphiti though, for example, the keystrokes are not intuitive at all. Too heavy of a cognitive load, in my opinion. It should be simpler to use.

Most dynamic tactile displays missed the mark by not adding height to their products, which is ultimately why I chose the Graphiti. Graphiti adds a whole new dimension to the equation. That should be their ad campaign. LOL. as an artist, having three dimensions allows for so much more opportunity to explore. I can feel faces, structures, color potentially, grooves, and even shadow to a tactile degree. The fact that Graphiti also works for watching live events under a microscope is a dream in my mind only. I can’t wait to try it! Any eclipse, or any astrological event would be something I certainly look forward to experiencing.

however, that’s not a reason not to love the Monark because, for students and new Braille users, I imagine, it’s a must have. I’m jealous that I did not have that when I went to school. I was a history major in college and still enjoy maps a lot.

Anyways, it’s supposed to be here soon. It’s going to be amazing.

Remember you are dealing with a 60 by 40 right now. With that said if you put your display in 800 by 600 and then put your colors in high contrast. What you get is windows in 5 colors. Graphiti has 5 Heights. I have used it as a screen for Word. and you can see the letters come up. I have also used it with raspberry pi as a linux display but you can not fit many words on the screen. I tell people it is like having a 1950’s TV verses the TV of today. If you joined after my post go back to one of my first posts. It has videos of things I have done with it from using Microscopes. To using turtle graphics. If you want me to resend them I can send them just to you. I have also used it with Openscad to make a dumbbell. we are just on the start of these devices with things like the dot, Monarch, Kadence, and Graphiti but I still like the Graphiti for its Touch calcitrant and multi level over all the rest. And I have all of them but the Kadence.

Awesome! Images and diagrams will be a big motivator for me. I also wish to see how well it could work with VS Code. If it could connect to the visual display of what happens after refreshing upon adding or taking away code in CSS for example, I’d be very interested in how to make that work efficiently. Thanks for the assist.

My best,

Chad

If you need any help I am on here and was the project lead at APH on the development of it. I have wrote NVDA bindings for it and Hopefully Orbit will give you those. If they don’t let me know. I also have some apps for it like Tetris.

I'm here. Still unavailable, however my Graphiti should be coming soon. They are testing it now from the lab. This is going to be an amazing journey. Talk soon.

Hello Friends:

The nfb-history and tactile-talk lists have been too quiet. Here is a link to a Wikipedia article on the Optacon.
