Job Description:

The Iowa Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (ILBPH) is seeking applicants for the position of Librarian 1 to fill the role of Technical Services Librarian. This position is responsible for collection development of electronic resources, cataloging electronic resources and ensuring accessibility through discovery and access.

Duties and responsibilities to include:

Technical Services

  *   Performs original and copy cataloging of print and electronic resources to facilitate their identification, access and use
  *   Under the guidance of the Special Services Librarian, maintain consistency in cataloging, classification and processing of materials
  *   Catalogs educational, vocational and general library materials
  *   Interprets and applies Library of Congress subject headings, the AACR2 and RDA in cataloging and classifying materials
  *   Uses library and bibliographic standards pertaining to electronic resources
  *   Processes electronic resources to make them available in the library catalog
  *   Promotes discovery of resources through the development and maintenance of OASIS, an on-line public access catalog and discovery tools using the integrated library system
  *   Maintains statistics on electronic collections and resources; provides reports as directed
  *   Assist in researching and ordering materials for the orders placed through the Instructional Materials Center
  *   Assists in the receiving and processing of educational materials for circulation Patron Services
  *   Explains services and interprets eligibility requirements to the public
  *   Provide Reader Advisory services to patrons by conducting reference and reader advisory interviews to guide patrons to reading materials and information resources
  *   Provides troubleshooting and technology support for electronic resource use for staff and patrons
  *   Creates and maintains procedures and training materials related to electronic resource use for staff and patrons
  *   Provide high-quality training in the use of specialized formats, such as digital talking books, digital players, magazines, BARD, library's on-line catalog and other library services
  *   Manage patron accounts through use of the library's integrated library systems
  *   Perform duplication for digital books
  *   Researches and implements a discovery interface for e-resources using the library's integrated library system
  *   Develop and participate in outreach and public education for library services and programs; including the access and use of electronic resources
  *   Work regularly scheduled shifts at the information desk, as well as substituting as needed

Minimum Qualification Requirements

A Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited school of Library Science;
OR

an undergraduate degree from an accredited four year college or university and one year of full-time professional librarian or archives experience (i.e., similar to work indicated in this description).
