[Tall-Corn] An accessible absentee ballot is crucial for blind and disabled Iowa voters, advocates say - especially in COVID-19 era - from The Ames Tribune

Good morning Wade and others,
This exercise in trying to getting this mess straightened out is clearly on
the plates of the Secretary of State of Iowa and the Legislative Council. We
have been working with them for over a year and of course the law is clear
that this can be done without legislative action. We have also filed a
complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice.

Since this is where we are at the moment, our choices are fairly clear. We
are all going to need to encourage our legislators to work toward getting
this resolved as soon as possible. If that doesn't work then we will need to
consider other remedies that will use many more resources.

Let's all work together to get this project satisfactorily resolved and put
to bed within the next eight months. We will be talking about this at
convention and all of us are going to need to be ready to act on it.

Bob

The Ames Tribune

Greetings, All:

Although I ventured the conventional absentee route, only for the ballot to
reach the wrong mailing address and unrecoverable, I succeeded in reaching
an early voting site with my chosen voter assistant. Four signatures and two
extra forms later, I accomplished my patriotic duty and was satisfied with
the available assistance and cooperation offered to me. Alas, perhaps "We
The Blind Citizens of Iowa" can simmer down and go about this voter
accessibility project at a more careful pace in plenty of time for the next
election cycle if not sooner. Maybe we could offer to test any new future
options of feasibility through mock elections. Otherwise, to all my fellow
blind and sighted Americans: Happy voting if you already have or soon will
cast your vote.

Cheers!

Wade Hemmelrick
