Cindy and all,

I do apologize for the misunderstanding. I received this email as a forwarded message because I am a student at LCB, and I must have misheard President Riccobono on tonight’s Great Gathering In.

If the survey requests that only leadership fill out the survey at this point in time, I ask that we all respect that request; however, I do believe that our past and present leadership have fostered part of of the current problems facing our organization, and more specifically our affiliate.

I would ask that, for the sake of any survivors who remain in our affiliate, we recognize that moving on and healing can be two separate actions. Therefore, while the survey may not be the appropriate nest step for our general membership at this point in time, creating a space for survivors to feel safe and respected is essential. Asking others not to share their experiences is inappropriate.

Also, in the future, I’d prefer that my mistakes be communicated to me directly and not paraded in front of our membership.

Yours in the Federation,

Elizabeth

P.S. My opinions are mine and mine alone, and they are currently, and will always be, centered around creating safe and welcoming environments for Federationists who advocate for the nation’s blind. Therefore, I ask that none of my personal thoughts/opinions be associated with any of my current positions in the National Federation of the Blind.

Dear Elizabeth and all,

I know that we are all anxious to have our sexual misconduct issues solved and to move on from this situation as quickly as we can. The situation has the potential to divide the organization, and to especially make people feel unsafe. I appreciate, Elizabeth, your efforts to that end.

However, the survey message specifically asks that the message not be forwarded to others. The current iteration of this survey was sent to leadership in the Federation—people who serve on boards and as officers of the National Organization, state affiliates, chapters, and divisions.

Others should not be receiving it, especially on a list serve. I would respectfully request that you, Elizabeth, tell people that at this time they are not expected to fill out the survey.

Thank you so much for your assistance in this matter.

Cindy Lou Ray, 1st Vice President

National Federation of the Blind of Iowa

Complete the RAINN Pre-Training Survey Today

Important Note: You are receiving this message for the upcoming RAINN training. Please do not forward this message.

RAINN <https://www.nfb.org/libraries/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=19867&qid=4844987> , the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization, is excited to be partnering with the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) to develop a training focused on deepening your understanding of sexual misconduct, including ways to actively be part of creating safer communities.

RAINN will deliver ten sessions of the same training content, so you'll only need to attend one of the ten sessions. The 3.5-hour sessions will focus on the complexities of sexual misconduct, including power and control dynamics, as well as healthy boundaries and ways to support survivors. At a future date, you will receive more information on how to sign up for a session.

RAINN tailors training content to each organization–to do this they rely heavily on participant feedback. We are asking you to complete this pre-training survey <https://www.nfb.org/libraries/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=19868&qid=4844987> to better understand your concerns and help us ensure that the training is relevant to you and the blind community.

All responses go directly to RAINN and are completely anonymous and will only be shared with the NFB leadership as combined data, plus the anonymous open-ended responses. All survey respondents, including training center students, have the option to reach out to the task force for assistance with submitting the survey. The survey should take you approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and we ask that you complete it within the next 5 business days. If you need assistance with submitting the survey, please reach out to survivors at nfb.org <mailto:survivors at nfb.org> .
