[Tall-Corn] Voting rights for all

Bob:

I’m all in for voting rights for all, but have questions about the focus here. 1) It seems NFB’s biggest push lately has been independent access to early voting and absentee ballots (not specified below). 2) At existing polling places, at least in theory we have the ability to cast our ballots independently, using the automatic ballot marking feature of the Dominion voting machine, at least one of which is supposed to be at every polling place in Iowa. For me, the main problem with the Dominion machines (as long as polling-place officials get them up and running) is the fun-sized ballots that they print. Since there typically are few people using this feature on any voting day, that effectively robs me of having a secret ballot.

Greetings,

We are working toward getting the Voting Rights for Blind persons in Iowa improved as you already know. We are urging everyone to contact their State Senator and/or State Representative to encourage them to help pass legislation that will make our voting easier and more private.

If you would like to contact your Legislators it is easy to do. First of all, if you don’t know who your representative or Senator is you can look that up on the web at

LEGIS.IOWA.GOV

Or contact me and I will be glad to get it for you.

Now you say you don’t know how to put together an email to your person, it is not difficult. It doesn’t need to be long, it doesn’t need to be complicated. Below is a copy of the message that Kim brown wrote and it says all it really needs to say. I would be glad to add that Kim’s email caused her Senator to get back to her and show some real interest in what we are doing.

Take a look at this message and think about how you can do your part. If all of us do a bit, we can win this important victory.

Hi Mr. Goodwin,

I live in Louisa County in Iowa. My son and I are blind, and we would like to be able to vote independently without sighted help.

Blind Iowans are hoping you might sponsor a Bill to improve voting rights for all of us.
Please contact me with any questions you may have.

Thank you.
