Good evening all.
I understand that for some of us it can be a little bit challenging to come up with what to write on some of these letters to our legislators. Below, I will post my letter which I’ve been sending to senators and representatives, as an example of what you can write.

I hope this helps

Dear Representative/Senator

I strongly oppose HSB126 Division XIII (13) as it will negatively impact the services provided to blind Iowans. The removal of the Commission Board's authority to choose a director who comprehends the needs of blind individuals will erode the quality of services.

The Iowa Department for the Blind has a long history of providing exceptional services to blind Iowans since 1925. For the past 65 years, the agency has been led by mostly blind leaders who serve as positive role models and have transformed the department into a world-class rehabilitation agency. This leadership has served as a model for other rehabilitation agencies serving the blind across the country.

To ensure the continued success of the agency and to better serve blind Iowans, it is imperative to maintain its independence and be led by individuals who understand the real challenges of blindness. In conclusion, to help blind Iowans live independently, it is vital to have leadership that truly comprehends what it means to be blind.

Sincerely, Your Name

Enrique
