Is Bill Pierce still alive? If he passed away, I don't remember hearing about that.

Sincerely,

April

    DearNFB of Iowa Members,

After speaking with Susan's sister-in-law, Karen, in New York, I have found out that the family will not be having memorial services for Susan. As per her wishes, Sue's body has been cremated, and her ashes will be sent to her family. They emailed me the short obituary below to share with her NFB family. If anyone would like to express their condolences to Sue's family, their address is:

    Karen and Michael Monath
    132nd Street, Belle Harbor
    NY, 11694

    And their email address is:

    And here is the obituary:

Susan Monath, age 78, passed away March 6,2023. She was born December 29, 1944. She survived being premature weighing in at 2 lbs 1 oz. A true survivor. She loved music, singing ,the opera, and loved her family and friends. As a teenager she performed a dance routine at Carnegie Hall in NYC. She was very independent and traveled without assistance in NYC and was very involved with The Federation of the Blind. Her long time companion Bill Pierce was her soulmate for many years. She is survived by her brother Michael and her sister-in -law Karen and two nephews, Jonathan and Mathew and their families. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

    With Love and Peace,
    Intesar Duncan

Years ago, Bill and Sue were members of the Des Moines Chapter. Every month, they would call faithfully to remind us of the upcoming chapter meeting. They used to go to the Marriott downtown to eat. My son Kevin was a young man working in room service back then and he would see Bill and Sue a lot.

 Sincerely,

 April

This is so sad. She always enjoyed the Old Capitol chapter meetings over Zoom. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to meet her in person.

How very sad. Sue was a long time Federationist. She seemed to be someone who was held down by her family, but when she came here and Bill Pearce began to help her, she was able to get some independence never before experienced.

She was a lovely singer, and a dancer as well? I did not know that about her, but I can imagine it. I am sorry the last few years of her life were so difficult. May she be singing and dancing in heaven.

 Dear NFB of Iowa Members,

I am saddened to tell you that our friend and longtime NFB member, Susan Monath, passed away in the hospital yesterday morning, March 6th. She had been battling the effects of her diabetes and cirrhosis of the liver for quite some time. Her liver was giving out slowly, and toward the end, retained so much fluid that the doctors could not keep up with it. Susan was a great fighter right up until the end. Her brother and sister-in-law were en route to help her move into a nursing home at the time that she passed.

I will be getting more information about how she will be remembered for her time on earth. In the meantime, please send Sue's spirit your thoughts and prayers. She told us that she likes to be thought of as a Dancer.

With Peace, Remembering Sue with Love,

 Intesar Duncan
