Becky:

Providing that I am available on the day that we are assigned, I’d be glad to do a Zoom meeting with the Business Class. My participation in NFB dates back to 1983, in 4 different states. I worked for IDB for 17½ years, mostly as a rehab teacher.

Subject: [Tall-Corn] Des Moines business class

Good morning,

I am reaching out to all of you to see about finding some people who would want to handle a business class either by zoom or in person once a month at the department for the Blind. I am doing the class this Friday, unless someone else wants to take it over. The class will be on the third Friday of each month unless we are told otherwise the time is 10:50 AM, to 11:50 AM. I really need people to step up. Our goal is to tell them about the NFB. What the NFB does for blind people , and how it works. Even if they are not from the Des Moines area, we need to let these students know that we will try to help them find a local chapter that they can join if they choose to do so. This is important, the department can talk with the students about both of our organizations. However, they cannot sway them one way or the other. I’m going to hand out braille literature at this class about the NFB and the different brochures that I have. I’m going to ask them if any of them would like to provide me with their contact information so that, I can reach out to them. I’m also going to give them mine. Please help! I will be calling on some of you if I don’t get volunteers, and I would much rather get volunteers. The business classes to be a non-visual class, because the students are learning to function without using their remaining vision. Maybe tell them a story about how you got involved with the NFB and why. If there is something significant that happened in your life, and the NFB stepped in to help you out, tell them about that. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me off list at my email or phone listed below. I do work, and may not always be able to take your call, but I will call you back. thanks so much everyone and I hope I get some people volunteering for the next few months. Starting with February. Thanks.
