Greetings, Remember this coming Tuesday is the day for
primary elections in Iowa. This is important to all of us again this year
because this is our chance to help get the people we want to be our
legislators, State Senators, and Members of Congress from Iowa. There are
primary races for many of the positions in both parties. Please consider
getting out to vote in the primary and then when the candidate of your
choice wins the primary you need to find ways to help them get elected in
November in the General Election.

In addition, this is a good time to remind all of you that though we are
trying to get voting laws changed to make it easier for blind person to vote
in Iowa we do have some options now and they do work. A member of the NFBI
came to us the other day and said that he had called his County Elections
Office to ask some questions about this primary. Things like is his polling
place the same one that he had in the General Election. Good reason to ask
this question since there are fewer people voting this time it could have
changed. He then asked if there would be an accessible voting machine at his
precinct. Of course the answer to that was yes since the law requires there
to be one at every polling place. Do our concerns stop there? No, when you
get to your polling place there are supposed to be people there that are
trained in how to use the accessible machines. That includes being able to
show you where the button is to turn off the screen on the device so that
people around you are not able to see your choices.

This year the NFBI Legislative Committee is working with the Iowa Secretary
of State's Office to make sure that all of things are happening. If you
encounter any problems in voting this Tuesday please let one of us know what
the problem was and where and when it happened. You should of course report
it on the Secretary Of State's Voter hotline too but we need to know it so
that we can work with them on this.

We hope that many of you will get out and vote this Tuesday and that there
are no problems. Also, do not forget that the National Office of the NFB
will have a election hotline set up for the General Election in November.

Good luck and if you have any questions we are here to give you answers.
