Last evening Sharon Omvig hosted a gathering of NFBI members to
sit down and visit with JoAnne Wilson who cut her teeth on
Federationism here in Iowa. She talked with us about many of her
experiences both as a young blind woman here in Iowa and one of
the first blind elementary school teachers in Iowa. She didn't
stop with making history for blind Iowans but went on up through
founding of the Louisiana Center For The Blind, the first NFB
Center. She also was part of the founding programs at Louisiana
Tech to certify people in the technics of blindness that resent
the philosophy of the NFB. JoAnne is living the live she wants
including doing in addition to all her professional
accomplishments, which we have only mentioned a few, she also
raised a family of five children.

This gathering had a good number of persons from our affiliate and
all of us appreciated Sharon's hospitality. We also learned many
things from JoAnne's presentation and there was some very nice
discussions. We came away with refreshed urgency to preserve what
we can and build anew opportunities for blind Iowans.

Thank you again, Sharon not only for hosting this event but for
the wonderful refreshments and the opportunity to have such a
informative and wonderful evening with great people.

Bob
