Hi ALl,

I’m following up on the below. For more background, the federal government is trying to delay implementation of web accessibility guidelines that any of us who uses the internet really want to have in place. This new rule doesn’t change the law, it just clarifies it, which will increase our access to web sites that are covered, particularly in education, state and local government. I know some of you have stories of accessibility issues because I’ve heard about them in conversation. Please briefly take a moment to share your story in writing. By presenting these specific examples from Iowans, we hope to clearly emphasize the harm if the government decides to no longer implement this rule.

THanks,
Helen

I promise this is my last, but not least, email for tonight; we’ve got a lot going on, which is great.

At the request of our national advocacy team, I’ve scheduled a meeting for this Wednesday at 2:30 with the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs Regarding the attempt to delay implementation of the Final Rule for the ADA Title II Website Accessibility

Here is a letter explaining the issue for background.

For this meeting I need stories from Iowans about experiences you have had with inaccessible web sites particularly belonging to state and local governments or educational institutions. Please write a brief summary of your experience or experiences and send them to me by the end of the day Monday so that I have time to compile everything for the brief meeting.

Also, if you would like to attend the meeting, please let me know. It would be nice to have a few more people in the room to emphasize our concern with this issue, though you may not have the opportunity to say anything since our time and agenda will be tight.

Thank you all for your help!
Helen
