Hello Federation Family,

Please read even if you are not planning to attend our legislative day.

From legislative committee chair Roger Erpelding:
As a reminder, this year’s Capitol Day event will occur on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. In the afternoon, from approximately 1:00 to 4:00, we will be at The Capitol. This will be a great time for contacting legislators to get to know them. The prescription drug access bill is sponsored by Representative Brett Barker on the Commerce Committee, and is House File 2033. The accessible voting bill that we will discuss but isn’t exactly what we want is HF2118. note that we do not have any Senate legislation.

You can find your legislators at https:,.//www.legis.iowa.gov <http://www.legis.iowa.gov/>./legislators/find.
Enter your address in the box provided and choose the matching result.
Click on the name of your Senator and representative.
Under the heading of other information is their telephone number and email address.
If you would like assistance, after February 1 Elizabeth will be available to help.

If you would like to contact your representative or senator by phone through the switchboard, the telephone number at the Capitol switchboard for the House is 515-281-1321, and the telephone number for the senate is 515-281-3116.

When contacting your representative or senator you might want to use the following formats:

If you will be present on February 10:
Hello, my name is ….., and I live in ……. I am a member of the National Federation of the Blind of Iowa. On the afternoon of February 10 we will be coming to the Capitol to talk about issues important to blind Iowans. Are you available for me to meet with you then to discuss these issues?

Thank You very much

If you will not be present on February 10:

Hello, my name is ….., and I live in ……. I am writing you to ask for your support in regard to House File 2033, a bill requiring prescription drug labels in an accessible format such as Braille, audio, or large print. This would provide more independence for a wide range of Iowans, and would add to prescription clarity and safety. I am a member of the National Federation of the Blind of Iowa, and our organization is in support of this legislation. Members of our organization will be at the Capitol on the afternoon of February 10 to seek support for this important legislation.
I would appreciate it if you would be willing to meet with them to learn more about this issue that is important to me. Would you be available for a few minutes that afternoon?

Thank yOu very Much

Please keep Helen informed of all legislative contacts and their results, especially if you want us to meet with someone for you. We hope to see you on February 10 for our Capitol Day.
