Did that sound like a political announcement? It wasn't, yet it was.

We learned that it has become necessary for us to amend the constitution to
fit our practices in Meetings. At this time we need a quorum of nine (9) to
hold a valid election. We are not currently able to meet that number, but we
must have elections.

Below is Article V Section One for you to examine; then there is a copy of
our proposed amendment. Article V, Section One and its amendment will be
read at the August 20 meeting; we will read it again at the September 17,
2026 meeting. After reading and discussion of the proposed amendment, we
will vote on it. It requires a quorum of nine members present and voting. 

Article V Section One as it now reads:

Article V Meetings

Section One Regular Meetings

The At Large Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Iowa shall
hold its annual meeting at the time and place of the annual state convention
of the National Federation of the Blind of Iowa. In order to conduct
business, there must be a quorum of at least nine members present. The Board
of Directors shall conduct the business of the organization between annual
meetings. In order for business to be conducted at any board meeting, there
shall be a quorum of three board members present. Regular meetings shall be
held throughout the year by telephone at a time determined by the
membership.

The proposed amendment would strike the following sentence:

In order to conduct business, there must be a quorum of at least nine
members present.

The Section, with the amendment would then read:

Regular meetings. The At Large Chapter of the National Federation of the
Blind of Iowa shall hold its annual meeting at the time and place of the
annual state convention of the National Federation of the Blind of Iowa. The
Board of Directors shall conduct the business of the organization Between
annual meetings. In order for business to be conducted at any Board meeting
there shall be a quorum of three(3) Board members present. Regular meetings
shall be held throughout the year by telephone at a time determined by the
membership.

It is important that you come vote for this amendment to preserve the
integrity of the chapter, and we long to have you with us to help build the
National Federation of the Blind.
