I believe we should have gone there and had the man deny us rather than calling ahead. Also, the man my mom talked to was the one who said that blind people could not zip line and neither could those who use wheel chairs. I did not think comparing made any difference since people with various disabilities have their own ways of doing the things they want and need to do. It is very encouraging that you were allowed to wall climb and supervise your children. My husband and I are trying to adopt from the state and have been ignored so far. We have spoken with the NFB, Disability Rights Iowa, and now, the State Ombudsman. We may finally be getting somewhere with the Ombudsman. It was an amazing experience, and no one had a problem with blind people doing it, nor were they weird during the training before we started. There is also never a concern that the two blind couples could not assist and supervise our children. We will definitely go back.</p><p class=MsoNormal>i really caution not using ableist stereotypes as comparisons when dealing with these experiences however. Mentioning that people who use wheelchairs are allowed to do it, and that you have the use of your legs, and therefore should be able to do it, implies that you are better off than someone using a wheelchair, more capable, et cetera. This is ableist and dismissive of those with other disabilities.
