This evening is one of those occasions. It is with profound sadness that I announce the death of a long-time Federationist and friend to many in Iowa, Ted Hart. I received word from one of his dearest friends in the Iowa affiliate that Ted passed away this morning in North Carolina due to complications resulting from contracting Covid recently.

For most of Ted’s 81 years of life, he was blind, but he did not let that define him. From hunting trips to his 30+ years of work at John Deere, to his work in many areas of the Federation, Ted truly lived the life he wanted. Ted had many stories to tell, from his time as one of Dr. Jernigan’s first students in Iowa, to his family and church, and even to the many stories he would tell as he worked the affiliate’s booth at the Iowa State Fair, he always had something to say for anyone who would listen.

Services are pending, and as I get more information, I will pass it along.

Ted’s life of service to the blind of Iowa and the nation will never be forgotten. May we all go build the National Federation of the Blind as he did, with love, hope and determination, to turn our dreams into reality.

Ted, we will miss you, our friend, mentor, and brother in the movement, now and always!

Scott Van Gorp, President
National Federation of the Blind of Iowa
Phone: 515-720-5282
Email

Website
Facebook
Twitter
Live the life you want.

The National Federation of the Blind of Iowa is a community of members and friends who believe in the hopes and dreams of the nation’s blind.
