She loved to talk with people and to cook for them. Not only did she help with several legislative events over the years, she hosted many legislators in her home for them to learn what the NFBI needed legislative help with. If someone else wanted to entertain a legislator she was also there to help.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p><p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Calibri><span style='font-size:11.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></font></p><p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Calibri><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>All of us have plenty to learn from Nyla’s dedication and work over the fifty plus years. She will be missed. She became a member of the NFB in 1964, attending her first convention in Phoenix, Arizona. She loved to tell the story of her trip to Phoenix in Dr. Jernigan's car with James Valliant at the wheel. It was a close call to be sure, but they arrived safely, and this began a long devotion to the Federation.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p><div><p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Calibri><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>Nyla came from a large farm family, and her cooking was simply wonderful. She baked a lot of cookies for legislative events, and played a large part in planning some of them.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Calibri><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>Nyla wanted to come to the state convention this past fall, and we were able to help her do so. She was thrilled to visit with old friends. Some of us had known her back in 1964. (I was a student with her at the Commission.) She loved attending conventions, and I don't think she missed many. I think the pandemic restrictions made it hard for her to attend. She was there this past fall greeting old friends, meeting new ones, and enjoying the banquet. She was considering joining us in Houston this upcoming summer. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Calibri><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>Nyla's health began a slow decline about a year ago, but she was still able to enjoy two birthday parties in honor of her 95th birthday last spring.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p></div><div><p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Calibri><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>We will miss Nyla, and I am only sorry more of us didn't get to know her and her Federation spirit.
