He turned 65 years old on February 23, 2023. On August 13, he had a stroke on his left side, after arriving at the hospital, his condition was going downhill, slowly, he developed acute respiratory distress syndrome, his kidney failed, he was put on a ventilator, and slowly his organs were dying. After suffering for 10 days, it was obvious that he will not get better, and the family had to make the decision to let him go. They waited for all his nine brothers and sisters plus his children to arrive from out of state to say their goodbyes before sending him on his way. We will miss him so so so much. James had been battling health challenges off and on over the years, but his positive attitude and warn spirit enabled him to better his life and the lives of blind people in Iowa City and beyond. James passed away on August 26, 2023 after his family had a chance to be near him to say their goodbyes. We do not have service information at this time, but will certainly pass it along when and if it becomes available. I’ve only known James through virtual chapter meetings, but it was certainly a pleasure to get to know him as long as I did.
