CURRENT SITUATION
•	The State of Tennessee has declared a State of Emergency due to
heavy rainfall (as much as six inches) and flooding in Northeast
Tennessee on Aug. 5, 2012.  More rain expected today.
•	TEMA has received damage reports from Carter, Greene, Johnson,
Sullivan, Washington and Unicoi counties.
•	State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) is at Level III Activation.

CONFIRMED FATALITIES & INJURIES (By County)
•	Three emergency medical service works in Washington County received
minor injuries during a rescue.  Treated and released.
•	Counties impacted have not reported any other injuries or any fatalities.

STATE RESPONSE ACTIVITIES
•	TEMA has deployed personnel to Carter, Washington and Unicoi
counties and to Tri-Cities to assist local emergency agencies with
damage assessments.
•	TDOT repaired section of Highway 81 washed out in Washington County.

REQUESTS FOR ASSISTANCE
•	No requests for state assistance at this time and no reports of
unmet needs from the impacted counties.

COUNTY BY COUNTY REPORTS

Washington County
•	Public schools closed due to flooding
•	Several homes and cars washed away; several bridges and culverts washed out
•	Johnson City public works building flooded & Johnson City bus garage flooded
•	About two-thirds of Johnson City school buses and public
transportation buses are out of service
•	Water in Johnson City mall
•	Worst hit area is Dry Creek Road
•	One shelter in place at Lamar Elementary in Jonesborough:  2 people
and 2 pets occupied.
•	45 people in total removed or rescued from homes in the Woodlyn
Road, Dry Creek Road and Cash Hollow Road areas

Unicoi County
•	Four shelters opened during event (all are now closed)
•	One home impacted; four county roads damaged
•	Several rescues/evacuations

Carter County
•	Multiple sinkholes and washed out roads (5 or 6 roads barricaded)

Johnson County
•	Nursing home flooded; no residents in danger

Sullivan and Greene counties report flooding, but no significant damage.
