      Section 508 Tester

Position Summary

The candidate will work on-site in Washington D.C. to assist a Federal 
Government Agency in complying with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation 
Act by conducting Section 508 testing of software applications, web 
pages, and documents. The candidate will be joining a small team of 
highly regarded experts that provide accessibility services to a Federal 
Agency.

Responsibilities include day-to-day interaction with the lead Federal 
tester and customers of the Federal test team, collaboration on test 
methodologies and procedures and writing detailed reports on issues 
found in application under test.

The successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of the Section 
508 standards, will take initiative to learn emerging technologies and 
their impact on Section 508 compliance, have excellent technical writing 
skills, be able to work with minimal direction and will work closely in 
support of the Federal test team’s goals.

Duties

Conduct Section 508 compliance testing of web sites, software 
applications and documents using the Section 508 technical accessibility 
standards;
Provide technical assistance and remediation guidance to developers;
Interpret and apply the Section 508 technical standards to a wide 
variety of environments and applications to ensure compliance;
Document testing methodologies;
Write Section 508 compliance reports which delineate an application’s 
compliance with the appropriate set of technical standards;
Recommend potential solutions by evaluating new and emerging assistive 
technologies designed to increase accessibility in the network environment;

Requirements

Minimum 3 years of Section 508 testing experience of software, web, and 
documents (preferably all three);
A track record of auditing and documenting compliance against the 
Section 508 technical standards;
Skilled at preparing management and technical reports;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Punctilious follow-through and attention to detail;
A recent track record with hands-on Section 508 testing of complex 
software interface layouts involving UI elements such as Custom Windows 
Controls, Java Applets and applications, Oracle Forms applications, 
Flash content, AJAX and other Web 2.0 Internet technologies;
Experience in use of testing instruments such as Object Inspector, 
screen reader software (JAWS, Windows Eyes, NVDA), screen magnification 
software, voice recognition software etc.;
Experience with PDF document accessibility testing and remediation;
Well versed with WCAG 2.0 technical standards;
BS/BA degree preferred;
