Unfortunately, it's really hard to answer that question from a distance.
Your laptop may have a function key to turn the mousepad on and off.  with
the FN key, that key in combination with each of the function keys will
perform some function.  These vary from laptop to laptop.  One of the
possible functions is to turn the mousepad on and off.  If you don't have
assistance reading those keystrokes (They are somewhat visually obvious when
people look at the function keys,) You can ,download he pdf manual for your
computer and they will be listed there.

You can also try to see if there is a mousepad icon on the system tray.
